This track is about exploring new ideas and planning practices. It focuses on the role of planning theory in understanding and informing planning scholarship and practice. Contributions are particularly encouraged which make connections between theoretical and substantive knowledge in planning, explore the relationship between knowledge and action or examine the interface between critical analysis and normative understandings. Topics considered might include theoretical and practical advances related to the challenges presented by the current economic, environmental and social context as well as developments in governance processes and civil society movements.
Proposals which explicitly explore the translation of ideas and practices between Europe and North America or between the Anglo-American world and non-English language contexts, including the global South, would be of particular interest and value.
